The Love Etched Effect...
Saturday the 3rd of December marked the official launch of Love Etched in the form of a bold campaign held in the honour of the fight against HIV/AIDS as well as in support of 16 days of activism. So what the hell is Love Etched anyway? Love Etched began as a blog about Love – a source of inspiration, involvement and encouragement – for no other reason but simply because we can. Love Etched has since organically transformed into a Love movement that seeks to see itself at the helm of the transformational agenda facing us as young people, facing us as Africans, as citizens of the world. Love Etched is a movement with the intention of making it ''the trend'' for young people to get involved in giving back, to loving one another and that which affects their environments.
It was 10am on a bright and sunny Saturday morning and the streets smelled ripe for inspiration. Love Etchers were armed with material geared at spreading the love in honour of the fight against HIV/AIDS. Positioned at intersections in Soweto and Sandton, a group of young South Africans took it upon themselves to encourage motorists by handing out promotional material that highlighted the simultaneous causes being celebrated within South Africa. The white ribbon in support of 16 days of Activism; the red HIV/AIDS ribbon in support of the fight against HIV/AIDS; and those nifty sign boards SA beggars love so much – on them words of love and encouragement. In our arsenal were also condoms; lovelolies as well as pamphlets on how to stay protected and uninfected.
The campaign was a great success! A large majority of motorists were supportive, inquisitive and encouraged our efforts. Whilst we are only just beginning, the first LoveEtchedEffect campaign was only just a peek into what’s to come. LoveEtched has only just begun!
